Hello I got an issue with VbA-M on Arch Linux, I use an intel graphic card and the GBA games on the newer version of VBA-M runs very slow, with older versions like the 18.1228 version everything works correctly and the roms even the GBA roms run smooth correcly and at good speed, if you can fix this issue I will thank you a lot

    The game speed depends of the game wat you are running and if you had used the fast forward, in older versions even using fast forward by hours the game speed is constant

  • In 1228 kode changed some sdl stuff to stop crashes
    in 1229, only some warnings were silenced.
    in 1230, nothing changed that would affect trunk builds.

    I don't see where the problem could be.

    Hello here is a screenshot of my old Xubuntu desktop, VBA-M working smooth, this is the 18.1202 but the problems start since the version 18.1229 so if you can do something to solve it I will thank you

    This issue does not ocurr in a single desktop like KDE, even XFCE Cinnamon and Gnome has it, old versions can be even executed on KDE with one gigabyte of RAM with not problem and at the awesome speed of 100% and is not problem if I boost it using the fast forward

    Finaly why do you not create a QT version too? A VBA-M-qt maybe? it will be clearly awesome for my KDE desktop, and the QT world :)

  • I think 1202 and 1229 are not compiled by the same people,

    Sergio only recently started making his builds so there might be a tweak or optimisation he is missing.

    I see, how can be it solved? the same problem is on Xubuntu 14.04 Arch Linux and many others what uses the 18.1229 but not on Fedora Mageia ROSA openSUSE openMandriva Sabayon and others what uses 18.1228 above, I realy like to see the issue solved

  • Could you show your hardware spec? Commands like...

    lspci

    cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "model name"

    cat /proc/meminfo | grep "MemTotal"

    for keyword in baseboard-manufacturer baseboard-product-name baseboard-version system-manufacturer system-product-name system-version bios-vendor bios-version bios-release-date; do
    printf "%-22s: " "$keyword";
    sudo dmidecode -s "$keyword";
    done

    ...maybe will help us.

    I'm running snv 1229 in ubuntu 13.10 and xubuntu 14.04, and i didn't notice this issue (well, i have a core i7 haswell quad core, so if vba-m gets a little slower than other version, probably it's hard to see here).

  • You did comparison between different distros, but what's the kernel of each distro?

    And you spoke about kde, gnome, and others... but did you use the same kernel? And the same distro? I think it's hard to works well under KDE but in Gnome or Xfce don't.

    Try test svn 1229 and 1228 or older under the same conditions, like (x)(k)ubuntu 14.04 (with the same kernel version, without upstream kernel and system modifications), and after do the same tests under an older ubuntu (12.04, maybe? with kernel 3.2, 12.04.3 and 12.04.4 uses newer kernel, so you will have to install manually the 3.2 kernel).

    You can do these tests in Arch too, but i think it's more difficult, because it's rolling release and every time you have an update.

    Try to be more methodical, random testing does not help figure out the problem.

    (I'm thinking that this is a problem with some system updating, like the kernel, regressions happens)

    the same issue is on Arch linux and Ubuntu (V 18.1229 before)

  • We need more info, it's missing 3 commands that I request.

    "the same issue is on Arch linux and Ubuntu (V 18.1229 before)", humm, could you be more accurate/methodical?

    OpenGL is enabled?

    "Sergio only recently started making his builds so there might be a tweak or optimisation he is missing."

    Nope, i only changed debian/ and put/changed the license terms in many files. In my launchpad branch i removed Windows and IDE's stuff too.

  • Hey squall-leonhart, someone has same issue with speed in linux, but in svn1202. I wonder if it's a real issue in vba-m, or in older Intel cpu. Even in virtualbox, i didn't get this issue. I tested in core i7-4700hq and in a core i5-3337U, and i didn't get this issue.
