I have solved the performance problems with UML. The old (slow)
host 2.4.25 vanilla; umls: 2.6.4 precompiled (from web). New configuration
is: host 2.6.4 +sca3
(patch applied to kernel tree); umls 2.4.23 precompiled (from web).
The performance now is about 6 times faster. It's slower than host but
not alot slower.
With umls 2.6.4 is even faster but it's SIG11 on libptread. I'll do some
when I'll have time.

Depending on the type of applications you're using inside UML, upgrading UM=
L kernel to 2.6 might actually slow things=20down. It happend to me, where=
2.6.4 UML was 10-15% slower than 2.4.23, running a groupware application=
with lots of disk I/O.=20
