Hi, I seem to have a problem were certain kinds of applications segfault when trying to run or use them. I'm using Debian Sarge. The guest kernel I'm using is version 2.6.15.6-bs2. I also had the problem with a plain 2.6.15.1 kernel. My host is Slackware 10.1 with kernel version 2.4.26. The applications that are segfaulting for me are sshd and BIND. For sshd, I was able to fix (or work-around?) the problem by setting PasswordAuthentication yes and UsePAM no in my /etc/ssh/sshd_config. For BIND, I just get: # named -fg Mar 09 23:47:59.141 starting BIND 9.2.4 -fg Mar 09 23:47:59.146 using 1 CPU Segmentation fault Any idea what is wrong or what I'm doing wrong? Are there any logs or other files I could check Thanks a lot in advance, Julius |

Thanks a lot for the fix. It indeed solves the problem. I had actually also tried 2.6.15-bs3, but that gave me lot's of new TLS errors (and things still weren't working), so it seemed even worse. Thanks, Julius |

It was -bs3 or -bs1? -bs1 gave a lot of messages, but -bs3 not, and until now all report say "-bs3 is ok". If it's not ok for you, please let me know and we'll see what's happening. -- Inform me of my mistakes, so I can keep imitating Homer Simpson's "Doh!". It was -bs3. I get a lot of these messages, when I try to use it with Debian Sarge: load_TLS(O_FORCE) in fork_handler failed, errno 5, not EINVAL |

TLS support can't work correctly then - all I can do is provide a better diagnostic for this case. You should continue using the "move /lib/tls away" solution, but on some distro (like Fedora Core 4 and beyond) it won't work. If you need them, upgrade your host kernel to 2.6. Yes, it's bad news, but I'm unable to help. -- Inform me of my mistakes, so I can keep imitating Homer Simpson's "Doh!". I'm just happy to know what is going on :) I'll probably only be using Debian in my UMLs for now. If I ever come across problems again, I'll just update my host kernel. Thanks, Julius |
