On the system I was having the sshd hang on, I'm trying again with http://www.stearns.org/uml/linux-2.4.27-um24271-netfilter20041111.bz2 instead of what Debian unstable has. With the "linux" from UML from Debian unstable, networking works (until it hangs), but with this version I get: mooix:~# ifconfig eth0 up SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory Any ideas? -Robin -- http://www.digitalkingdom.org/~rlpowell/ *** http://www.lojban.org/ Reason #237 To Learn Lojban: "Homonyms: Their Grate!" Hi. A few months ago I was adviced to try this uml_switch implementation, which worked well for me. I don't know if this advice is still valid. http://www.suse.de/~kraxel/uml/switch.tar.gz You say networking works well with the debian binary. Perhaps you could try running sshd in full verbose mode (not as a daemon). It *might* tell you something. I think this (the socket path) is a non-default location from the UML point of view, and I remember tons of times that Debian "fixes" Uml to use this non-default location. Probably the fix is applied to sources but not in the binary you downloaded, so you must pass on the cmd line the location of the socket, or turn uml_switch to the default location. We could even fix UML to try that location, possibly... it makes more sense anyway (Debian fixes it to conform to FHS, and they're probably right). > and as I said before, networking works fine if I use the Debian > supplied "linux" command, up until the point where sshd freezes > (which is what I was trying to solve). > -Robin -- Inform me of my mistakes, so I can keep imitating Homer Simpson's "Doh!". Well, using eth0=daemon,,unix,/var/run/uml-utilities/uml_switch.ctl I am able to get networking with a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel from http://www.stearns.org/uml/.
