I'm having a few problems with UMLbuild and want to know if anyone else
is using it or has encountered it. I'm on a PII/400 running a stock
RedHat 8.0 install. I'm trying to install RH8 for the UML session. This
has worked fine using the 2.4.19 kernel RPM from the web site. Now I
want to use a different kernel though.
I tired downloading one of the binary kernels from
kernels.usermodelinux.org and using that instead of one of the RPM
kernels. Specifically, I downloaded kernel 2.4.22-djc2-8um. I've also
tried custom building a kernel using the .spec file on the web site.
Both with the same results. the UML fails to build. I get the following
VFS: cannot open root device "root" or 00:00
please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 00:00
result of system is 256
I noticed that umlbuilder 1.5 supports kernels over 2.4.19 so I tried
using that version instead with the same results.
I really need to get this working for a course here next term. Does
anyone have any ideas on what is happening?

Umlbuilder didn't please me last time I tried it. It needs maintainance.
However, this problem is that when umlbuilder starts linux, it doesn't spec=

If not, and you need hacking the tool yourself, you must just edit the shel=
