hi, i've a server with 8Gb ram and i want try to move some db inside uml , i've need of a uml kernel with support for highmem , in my host I can't compile it , so i've take one from web site ( 2.4.21-djc1-5um (david@macha) (gcc version 3.3 (Debian)) ). The problem is that when i run it in skas mode with mem>800M it core dump , in TT mode no problem , but when I try to use memory inside uml it freeze. any idea? ps: if someone have a precompile kernel good for these try can send it to me , this can be an intresting situation to try unl on large system. Your host kernel lacks SKAS support. You have to build a uml patched host kernel that has SKAS support compiled into it. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ L. In your case it core dumps, in othe= r=20 cases people got data corruption. Jeff Dike will one day correct this, I=20 guess. For now, however, it doesn't work. Maybe you could try older kernels, but they would have even worse bugs than= =20 that release, even without HIGHMEM. Highmem hasn't worked for a while. My current tree (not yet released) has it building and apparently working. Jeff |
