I'm not sure this works, but you might try seeing if you can get minicom
or something to talk to the serial line. Then make sure that the line has
the same settings when you try to get UML to talk to it.
Passing raw characters over it should work. However, things like pppd
do things which the UML serial driver doesn't support. I've tried once
or twice to run ppp over a UML serial line without success.
