I am hitting a strange problem. Running a RH 7.2 root with a UML kernel sometimes pauses and just sits there (RH 7.3 host). If I hit any key (a space) in console, it continues normally. Usually it happens right after init starts and prints "INIT: version 2.78 booting", but it may happen any time when something is output to console. It happens the same way with stderr console and with xterm console (in the latter case, you should hit space in xterm rather than in stderr). Does it remind anyone about a known bug? -- Pete |

I am not exactly sure how to identify it. It was recently included into Red Hat beta (presumably to be shipped in next release). The /proc/version looks like this: Linux version 2.4.18-7.80-um-31um (za...@ni...n) (gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-110)) #1 Tue Jul 30 16:52:57 PDT 2002 The "-um" is what I added to EXTRAVERSION, and -31um is added by UML build automatically. -- Pete |

SMP host? If so, there's a SIGIO delivery bug on the host which manifests itself under SMP. A SIGIO occasionally gets delivered to the wrong process, and the process which can handle it remains blissfully unaware of it. Jeff |
