It's true the host side's not set up, but I can ping it: > [root@bobtail /root]# ping -c2 192.168.1.253 > PING 192.168.1.253 (192.168.1.253) from 192.168.1.253 : 56(84) bytes of data. > 64 bytes from 192.168.1.253: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=4.198 msec > 64 bytes from 192.168.1.253: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=976 usec There are all kinds of things wrong with this picture. Neither side of the interface is configured, the UML side isn't registered with the IRQ system, so it can't receive interrupts, and 976 usec is a damn good ping response time from a UML. I would say that the host has some device that's configured as 192.168.1.253. It may be down, and doesn't show up in 'ifconfig', but down devices respond to pings. Do 'ifconfig -a' and check that. Also try telnetting or ssh-ing to it. If you get anywhere, I bet it's the host. Jeff |
