The old umn device uses the host kernel as the router. The new eth device uses a usermode daemon, but those packets also go through the kernel, so I'd guess there's slightly more overhead. Aside from the virtuality overhead, which is there on UML <-> anything networking, it's basically fancy IPC, which Linux ought to be pretty good at. Jeff |
