I have problems using UML with a Debian sid image. Woody works fine. Specifically, getty fails logs "failed to query next available vt" to /var/log/auth.log and fails to start, both at boot time and later. The xterms associated with the various ttys do not open. It is possible to write to them, in which case they do open, but getty will still not run. Using a home-built 2.4.26 guest kernel or the 2.4.24 guest kernel currently in sid guest kernel, I get one getty, on tty1. Using a home-built 2.6.5 guest kernel, all gettys fail to start. I have moved /lib/tls out of the way on both the guest and host file systems. I am using a home-built 2.6.5 host kernel. What I did: * Install woody on an empty image using the Debian installer * Reboot * Change "stable" to "untable" in /etc/apt/sources.list * Upgrade woody to sid using apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade * Accept the default answer to all questions * Kill the getty running on /dev/tty6 * Run "getty 38400 tty6", which is what /etc/inittab would do at startup Running getty under strace shows that ioctl(fd, VT_OPENQRY, ...) returns an error (EINVAL), where fd is the file descriptor obtained by opening /dev/tty0. This is pretty frustrating. Can anyone help? Does anyone have a sid image that works for them that I could copy and play with? -- David Byers. |
