I make no guarantees about the UML in Alan's tree (and while I'm disclaiming
things, I also make no guarantees about the UML in the Linus tree between
releases). Alan apparently has stuff in his tree that change interfaces,
which requires UML updates. There hasn't been a Linus release so far that
hasn't broken UML.
So, the short answer is that I don't know what the problem is. The slightly
more elaborate answer is that, for the most part, I don't care. Where I do
care is when that stuff ends up in the Linus tree, then I have no choice but
to deal with it.
BTW, this opens up a job opportunity for anyone who wants to take it on -
UML -ac maintainer. A working -ac UML would be nice for -ac fans. It
would also be handy for me by giving me advance warning of what to expect from
Linus and what the fixes might be for whatever he's going to break.

Ok ran this thought gdb and I get.
ubd0: unknown partition table
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
Program exited normally.
Don't know what to think.
