Oh, yeah, that's pretty nifty! I'm doing the same thing, except I cheated a bit. I've got a Makefile that generates the RPMs for me. There's a Makefile.inc where I put in the versions that I want, and the Makefile does the rest, downloading any missing pieces, putting things in /usr/src/redhat, etc. I selfishly kept the Makefiles for myself and didn't put them in the tarball on the website. > If you'd like to email me off list, we can try to > merge > the two to produce something even more useful. Sure. I'll check your code out more carefully and email you later. > > I've been installing the uml-kernel package with > > umlbuilder, but doing that requires a few hacks to > the > > umlbuilder code so that it doesn't install the > modules > > tarball into the image. > > I'll take the patch! Nah, I just remove the lines mentioning modules.tar from, err, uml_mkdistro.py and uml_stage2install.py, I think. Nothing interesting. > > In my opinion, that stuff > > shouldn't be hardwired in there anyway! > > The reason UML Builder is hardwired the way it is > (copy /usr/lib/uml/modules.tar) is because that is > the only > anyone has been commonly distributing UML. Yeah, I know. Maybe if we get our RPMs to do the right thing, eg. generate the tarball AND a uml-kernel rpm, then maybe that anyone would adopt it! Actually, I like umlbuilder very much as it is, except that it's written in python, which I don't understand well enough to really hack on. Aargh! Thank you, though, for making such a useful tool, I don't know what I'd do without it. Well, actually I do, but it involves having an extra rack of old PCs and a pile of kickstart floppies to run my tests with! :) John PS--I'm subscribed from yahoo because my mail server doesn't seem to like the email from the list server, but I don't have enough administrative control to fix it. If you happen to admin this list and wouldn't mind terribly, would you change my email address to uml...@bu...? :) No sweat if you can't. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
