I'm not sure this is completely repeatable, I'll need to try it again, but here is what I think I noticed..

All of my directories and txt filenames are in the following convention:
Artist Name - Track Title

I have a directory & .txt file that have an ampersand in the band name. When loading this file [by pressing "s" after the intro page displays]the program would segfault and dump memory. Then I replaced the "&" with "and" in the file and directory names and ultrastarng started normally.

The thing that gives me hesitation in this is that I have another file where the track title contains an "&", but it did not cause the segfault problem...

I tried to reproduce the bug with no luck, so the & could not be the cause.
Verify that the song is parsed after you change the & (no Cannot open "directory/file.txt)

you are right, I tried the ampersand last night and it worked fine. But I found at least one character that was a problem... let me see if I can post it in this comment...

    ´

The unicode for that character is U+00B4 and it is described as "Accute Accent". I imagine there are other non-ASCII characters that would be a problem.

I just remembered that character was a problem when it was in the lyrics... I think my filename problem could have been from the directory and filename not matching [one had the unicode character and the other had a normal single quote "'"].

Closed - Could be related to fixed segfault (empty song directory or long syllable)
