How to run disk defragmentation automatically through Windows Task Scheduler?
Task Scheduler is a standard component of Windows designed especially to launch tasks automatically on a user defined schedule.
I'm using Windows 7, how can I set an automatic disk defragmentation?
To add a new task first open the task scheduler component. Click Start menu button, then start typing "Task Scheduler." Select
Task Scheduler under Programs.
Alternatively, click the Start menu button, then select All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Task Scheduler.
A three-pane window should open. On the right side under actions, there are options to create tasks. Select Create Basic Task...
Enter a name and description for the task, then press Next.
Set basic schedule options and click Next button again.
Set more schedule options and click Next button again.
Start a program should be selected by default. Click Next button, then Browse and type the full path of the udefrag.exe binary file (it installs by default to the system32 directory).
Press Next to bring up a summary screen. Check Open the properties dialog for this task when I click Finish then click Finish.
(Optional) Change the security options to Run whether user is logged on or not and select the user.
Set more parameters through the various tabs or click OK to complete the new task adding. If you selected to run as a specific user even if they are not logged on, you may be prompted for a password.
