Hi! I have enjoyed using UltraDefrag for several years now, on XP, Vista and Windows 7. I've run into an issue on my Windows XP SP3 laptop, though. Ever since the upgrade to v5.x, when I try to Optimize or Quick Optimize my hard drive, I get a blue screen just a few seconds into the optimization, with a bug check string of IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, with the problem file being hal.dll, and Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x1000000a (0x00000034, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x806e7a16)

*** hal.dll - Address 0x806e7a16 base at 0x806e5000 DateStamp 0x4802517f

I have tried 5.0.2, 5.0.6 and 5.1.1, all resulting in the same error. Defrag works fine. When I downgrade to v4.4.0 of UltraDefrag, the optimization runs without any problems. Amazingly enough, I haven't had any other blue screens with this laptop! It is a 1 year old 15" Dell with a Core i5-2540M CPU @ 2.6 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, and a 250GB drive.

Any help or suggestions you could provide in identifying the issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jon

I was without Internet access over the weekend and will have to take a closer look at this tomorrow.

Most of the problems reported by searching the net for IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x1000000a hal.dll+2a16 have been due to memory problems.

I am closing this due to not being able to duplicate the problem and to find the cause using the data provided.

You can request to reopen the issue, if there is new information that shows that this issue is related to UltraDefrag.
