No

If you follow the upgrade instructions on the Wiki (running FireFox via sudo) this leaves files with incorrect permissions in the users profile dir, that cause a nasty red error bar, which links to a scary page about files being locked. It also kills Places (bookmarks, history etc. etc.)

Problem example:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6.6K 2009-08-04 21:03 cookies.sqlite-journal
Fix:
sudo chown -R yourUserNane /home/falken/.mozilla/

    Hi

Indeed, one should not use sudo to run firefox. That is why the update instructions specifically tell you to use "gksudo" instead of "sudo". gksudo is profile-safe.

I suppose I will add an extra special note to make it perfectly clear that one should not use the plain "sudo", for those who really like 'sudo' :)

that's cool. I guess I skipped using gksudo because as a KDE user I assumed that was a GNOMEism

    Hi,
Hmm, well, as i recall, kde also has an equivalent thing called "kdesu". But could you check for me whether "gksudo" is even installed on your kde machine by default? If not, maybe i'll have to mention kdesu for kde users...

kdesu is there, yup. I dunno in gksudo is in the default Kubuntu install or if it's been brought in as a dep. at some point, sorry. Best to mention both, along with the 'don't use sudo' warning ?
