Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to tell you that the link you have provided says that hindi translation has already reached 100% for tuxpaint translation files, stamp translation files and config translation files. I could not see any translation for website so I tried downloading poedit and translating the website however, when trying to save the file on poedit, it gives me error saying, "that it will store in UTF format". Should I be proceeding further and translate and send you the file ? If not, then can you point me to the areas where hindi translation is required.

Regards,

Ashish

Very cool, thanks!

For translations, it should be relatively simple.  You want to download the
"POT" files (templates which contain the original English strings, and blank
spots filling in the translations) from here:

 http://www.tuxpaint.org/help/po/

'tuxpaint.pot' is for the main application (buttons, dialogs, and hints
that Tux gives for how to use the tools)

'tuxpaint-stamps.pot' is for the text descriptions of all of the stamp
artwork.

'tuxpaint-config.pot' is for the configuration program's interface.

'tuxpaint-website.pot' is for the tuxpaint.org website.

You can use a tool like "poEdit" ( http://www.poedit.net/ ), available
for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, to open the POT template initially,
add the translations, and save the results out as a PO file.

For Inuktitut, you'd name the resulting PO files (which you could
then edit later, to add more translations or edit existing ones):

 iu.po
 tuxpaint-stamps-iu.po
 tuxpaint-config-iu.po
 tuxpaint-website-iu.po

respectively.  You could email them to me directly, as file attachments,
and I can place them in Tux Paint's source code repository (CVS).
The Tux Paint, Stamps and Config translations would be available in the
next release of Tux Paint (no ETA for that, sorry!)  If you manage to
translate any of the website, I can put that up relatively immediately.

In any case, once we have the PO files in CVS, we'll maintain links to
them, and their current statistics, over at
http://www.tuxpaint.org/help/po/ (where others could grab the latest
copies and lend a hand).

For stamp artwork & sounds, we've documented a lot of how to create
artwork, but if you have any 'raw data' you want to contribute, we
can eventually find volunteer time to prepare them for inclusion
in Tux Paint.

Thanks and good luck!

-bill!

In addition to what Bill said, your name looks french, so perhaps you
will find useful to look at the french translations.

Hi,
A new Tux Paint release has been anounced recently. I downloaded and
installed the Windows version. But I don't know why the Fulah (ff)
translation has not been included. We have completed the work months ago as
part of the ANLOC localization programme (
http://pootle.locamotion.org/ff/tuxpaint/).
Please help us get a binary for Windows as soon as possible so that testing
and bugs tracking can be undertaken. We would also like to announce it to
the Wider community as par as the celebration of the International Mother
Language Day on February 21st!

Please help!
Regards

Sorry Ibrahima - The 0.9.21c release was a minor code-change to the
Windows build, and did not include much else from what will be released
as 0.9.22.

Unfortunately, what's in CVS is still in a fairly unusable state, and I can't
estimate when things will get cleaned up enough for another major release.

Hello,

a "Tux Paint power user" B-) discovered a little bug in the translation.
The message string "Eine Zwergkaninchen." should be "Ein Zwergkaninchen."

Dear Bill,

I am a student of computer science at Australian National University and I
am very keen on open source softwares. After doing a bit of research on few
open source project on sourceforge.net, I found your project really
interesting to contribute. I would like to make contributions to
documentation and translation in Hindi. I would appreciate if you can guide
me where do I have scope of making these contributions. I have already
subscribed to both the mailing list.

Regards,

Hi Ashish, thanks for offering to help.  You can get started right away
by working on the Hindi translation of the Tux Paint app, the Stamps
collection, and the Tux Paint Config. program (though the latter cannot
currently support Hindi, due to the non-Unicode UI kit it uses :^( ... but
down the road, the translations will hopefully be useful!)

You can start here:  http://www.tuxpaint.org/help/po/

BTW, the tuxpaint-docs list is (was) meant for discussion of a rewrite of
the documentation.  It's meant less for discussions of translations,
though any technical aspects of making the documentation 'more easily
translated' would be on-topic there, as well.

Thanks,

-bill!
