Hello all! I would like to propose an idea for Tux Paint. It would be used for "Game Night" enhancements, but it certainly could be used in a school setting. It would make it easier for those using a HTPC or any PC for a Pictionary/Win, Lose, or Draw game.

This could all be selectable options in Tux Config.

1. Include a configurable timer (starts green, then flashes red in the last X seconds). Once completed it makes a sound (possibly user selected, or just a plain "buzzer" sound). I noticed that there are a couple of button slots not used at the end, and it could be placed here.

1a. A reset timer button

1b. A start/stop timer button (stop in red, start in green)

2. The new key always makes a blank white canvas (no need to chose a color, or the background color can be chosen in Tux Config).

As I'm not sure if this group likes large attachments to be sent, I uploaded a quick mockup of what I'm talking about here:

Since I am not a coder, I had planned on finding someone who could code this. I'd certainly be happy to send a few bucks via Paypal to someone who could help me get this done. I'm looking for a Windows build, but I think it could work for all of the builds. Please let me know what you think, and if you're interested in working on it, please let me know.

Thank you all for helping to make such a great program!

Subject: Re: Permission for "Game Night" Tux Paint Enhancements

Hi Keith. Very brief reply. I like the idea. :)
As Tux Paint is open source (GPL), you can do what you want, as long as
you supply any sourcecode changes to whomever you distribute the software to.

Of course, I think something like this might be useful within Tux Paint,
for collaborative play in schools/etc.  So I'd love to see it become an
'official' part of Tux Paint.

We have a developers mailing list that you can pose the idea to
(tuxpaint-devel).  See:  http://www.tuxpaint.org/lists/

GOtta run.  Thanks & good luck!

Hello Mr. Kendrick! I have enjoyed using your program with my daughter,
and we recently found out how much fun you can have with it on an HTPC
using it with a Wacom tablet for a game night of Pictionary/Win, Lose or
Draw. As it's simple to use, everyone can easily pick it up and start
drawing almost instantly, even if none of us can draw. :)

I would like to make a couple of enhancements to Tux Paint to make it
easier to use for an HTPC, and I am asking for your permission to do so.
As I am not a coder, I would probably submit it to a coding site to get it
done (with your permission). If you would like, I could also submit this
extra code back to you as well if you'd want to incorporate it. This would
be for a Windows build, but I'm equally happy to have it be used on all
  platforms.

My ideas for the "Game Night" options in Tux Paint are as follows. I'm
fine with these being all selectable options in Tux Config, and it would
  probably make it easier.

1* Includes a configurable timer (green, then flashes red in last X

  could be used here.

  1a * Reset timer button

1b * Start/Stop timer button (Stop in red, start in green)

2 * New key always makes blank white canvas (no need to choose a color, or
the background color can be chosen in Tux Config)

I've included a quick mockup of what I'm planning to do. Do I have your
  permission to do so?

  Thank you!
