I've created a makefile to help automate a number of tasks, including installation. I've written docs for it at the top of the file (see attached) and I'm hoping it can get included in the RPM in the /etc/tripwire directory.

Essentially you can (cd /etc/tripwire first):

# make init

right after RPM installation, which will take care of creating the keys (it will prompt as usual), doing --init and --check and will also --update --accept-all (because the first check fails with the creation of the database). also, it will clean up the policy file from references to files that don't exist in the system (which causes a ton of warnings). later the user can do:

# make edit-cfg

or

# make edit-pol

to edit config and/or policy files. the makefile renders these files in text mode and runs vi on them. Later, when all is good:

# make

will recompile the files and remove their text representations. Also,

# make update

is useful in that it allows review (and acceptance) of the most recent report.
