Hi all, >From what I've read, it seems that XML schemata are preferred as compared to DTDs for complicated XML tasks. I have a fully working schema that works the same as the DTD, I was wondering whether we should switch to a schema, or keep the DTD? Thanks, Gansito |

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I would personally much rather work with a schema than a DTD. One downside to switching is that all the game xml files would have to change. Each file now has, <!DOCTYPE game SYSTEM "game.dtd"> If we start using schema, we would have to change the files and all mods, or support both schema and dtd. What are the advantages you see to xml schema. I know an xml schema can specify more restrictions than a dtd, but I find them to be very verbose, and much harder to read than dtd's. I was thinking what we would do is change all the standard game files to use the schema, and continually update the schema, and leave the 0.9.1 DTD for compatibility reasons for all the mods. For advantages, I think that a schema has an advantage of being: 1. Easier to specify datatypes (int, string, etc.) 2. This should make it easier for validation purposes. 3. In my opinion, easier to read. 4. As far as I can tell, more standard I guess I don't see any real disadvantages to switching to a schema. -- Gansito Sean Bridges wrote, On 8/8/2007 11:18 PM: > One downside to switching is that all the game xml > files would have to change. Gansito, For reference, could you attach the XSD file that you created?
