Well, I was trying to use Roman numerals, indeed, but I botched it. I thought it was:
bis, ter, quater, quinquies, sex
2 times, .., 6 times
but it's actually
bis, ter, quater, quinquies, sexies
(There is a small error in the list , but I found source  which seems cleaner.)
So I should clean this up, too. There is no compelling reason: I was once very amused to find out that a friend in France was living on
28 quater Rue Salenques
So it wasn't 28, nor 28 bis, not even the strange 28 ter, but it was 28 quater. Hence I figured, why not use the same scheme for Trigger maps. The original map keeps its original name, but all additional variations are indexed using Latin numerals.
