Tnsnames.ora on network

    1, Hi i want use tnsnames.ora located somewhere on the local network, not on local machine.
    It is possible ?
    2, when i define and use local tnsnames.ora, i will "connect" to db but after selecting:
    select sysdate from dual; i get:

    ut 27. I 16:41:33 2009
    ORA-24316: illegal handle type

    <ERROR>select sysdate from dual

    can you help me?

      1: If you mount it via nfs or some other method, sure

      How did you install tora? What OS are you running on?

      Hi, thanks
      im using 32bit windows, so i installed that .exe file for tora2
      im using clietns 8,8i,9i, it seems everything works with 9i,
      so i will use that client, hope i wouldn't need 8i :)

      Hi does it mean that 8.1.7 is no longer supported?
      Cause i realised, i need 8i client

        The Windows binaries were built against the 10g instant client. You need to copy that into the directory for Tora or you'll get some weird crashes. Don't worry, I'm also stuck with 8i and it works great. (But the 10g version is the last to support 8i.)

        Go here:
        http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html

        And grab the 10.2 Windows basic or basic lite zip. Uncompress it and copy everything to where tora.exe is. Should work fine from then on.
