Adding to this

I'm also interested in this feature. I do remember talking to someone on the IRC channel that was implementing something similar where panes could sent to the background and they could be brought up in a list like in screen (ctrl-a, " for the list in screen).

Thanks for your response! zoom certainly does look useful and will
work for me in some situations. I still think hiding panes within a
window would be useful as well. Do you think this would be a
reasonable feature request? Or is the idea flawed in some way?
