I want to add some files to a forum post.
Is it possible to add/attach files to a forum-post like in a wiki-page?
And what to do so?! :-)
There is an option, that a file has to correspond to a regex...
but there are no more options like "X allow file attaches".
it is definitively possible to attach files to a forum post.
Main Menu (Menu 42) -> menuitem Forums -> menuitem Admin Forums
Second tab, scroll down and you will find "attachments" and a
dropdownmenu where you can set if it is allowed or not.
Under this you can decide, weather you want to store attachments in the
database or with a path to the server.
One issue you should mind, is to store files not in the database and not
in the tikiroot.
Standart setting of all attachements and files in Tiki is "Database" and
it is recommended to change that.
If you switch to store attachments and files on a server the standart
folder would be /files (= ./files)
It s strictly recommended not to do so aswell!
What to do?
I always unpack and install Tiki in an empty folder, as a "layer"
between the server folders and the tikiroot.
there I setup a couple of folders in a certain name-scheme, like
/files-wikiattachments /files-filegallery /files-forumattachments and so on.
Those folders now are not in the tikiroot, but "one layer above" - save
from clean install upgrades and save from breakin in hackers (more or less)
How to get the path to those folders? If you are a linux/unix user, I
need not to talk further, in case you come from windows I tell ya what
lucy explained me a while ago:
./ stays in the same folder respectively hierarchy
../ goes up one higher
../../ goes up two higher
In the setting I mentioned above I have the path for filegalleries this way:
And for the certain forum:
Make sure, that you setup the folder first stage - I do not know, if
Tiki can setup a folder itself, if its not existing upfront (attachments
might end somwhere in the Nirvana.
For filegalleries it is possible to move the files from the database to
a folder ../somefolderpath , but I do not know if that would be possible
for every feature, like forums
So try on a testing installation, then make a sketch and then 1. setup
folders 2. type the path(s) in the admin panel(s)
Hope I could help ya,
