this is interesting!
Last night, while analyzing logs, I found messages in there which indicated
that the instability of dev.tw.o might result from scripts running for too
long. And these scripts then seem to "hang" - as an apache-restart to fix the
site when it hangs, isn't able to cleanly shut down Apache.
Interestingly I didn't find your request in the logs with the error-message
that indicates the site dying soon. This problem really seems to grow over
time. Only thing I found was:
[24-Jan-2009 15:41:26] PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds
exceeded in /home/tiki/public_html/lib/tikilib.php on line 4934
At least we got a line number in the code.
I don't think that raising the execution time will help anything - the script
will probably never finish?!? Also I'm not sure, if it really is the search
that breaks stuff or something else.
doc.tw.o never died in the last months for such reasons (every time it was
down, it was human error of mine), but search on doc.tw.o is not bugfree
either. The longer the Apache is up, the worse it gets - I suspect some
problem with eaccelerator. Will see about that again once I get it moved over
to something else.
But the php errorlog on doc.tw.o is empty, while on dev.tw.o I find stuff like
the above in it.
