Below is copy/paste from SF RFE 633136 http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=3D64258&atid=3D506849&func=3Ddet= ail&aid=3D6 33136 =3D=3D The current basic approval for articles in the tikiwiki-=20 CMS is OK. But we should look at designing a more=20 powerful & flexible workflow system. Tikiwiki's integrated=20 version control & rollback features with=20 grouping/permissions and email notification will permit=20 tikiwiki to be an easy & powerful workflow management=20 system. Tikiwiki will not only to compete with=20 Postnuke/Xoops/. but will go after high-end packages=20 like VignetteR Storyserver.=20 The workflow area is much less crowded than the basic=20 Open Source CMS area. More & more organizations are=20 looking to have a database-driven CMS system which=20 can manage all their web properties while each=20 site/section can have their own look & approval system.=20 Each object (article) is assigned to one or many=20 categories. Each category could be assigned a distinct=20 permission/approval process. If an object is assigned to=20 many categories, the object should go through each=20 approval process. Depending on the category, there=20 would a modifiable list of people/groups that have roles=20 (ex.: Creator, Editor, Translator, Approver, etc)=20 The tikiwiki diff engine (although phpwiki's version is=20 superior) makes it easy for a document to be edited=20 back & forth and for everyone to be able to track &=20 understand the changes.=20 For example, documentA is submitted. Since it is part=20 of group1 & group4, reviewers of group 1 receive an=20 email. The first available reviewer clicks the link, logs in=20 and reviews/edits the document. When completed, editor=20 (s) of group 4 receive an email. They login & approve.=20 The document then goes up to the appropriate section=20 (s) on the website.=20 With the side by side diff, tikiwiki could be used for=20 online translation. This is another area where the field is=20 wide open.=20 Some links on Workflows:=20 http://www.cmswatch.com/GlossaryTerm/?term_id=3D38=20 http://www.vignette.com/Images/en/v7Workflow_lg2.jpg=20 http://www.wfmc.org/=20 http://www.e-workflow.org/=20 http://www.linas.org/linux/pm.html=20 Some open source applications:=20 http://www.typo3.com/=20 http://www.ovidentia.org/ =3D=3D M ;-) -- Marc Laporte -----Original Message----- From: tik...@li... Subject: [Tikiwiki-devel] Workflow docs I did some research on workflow projects at freshmeat and the one that seems most mature is: http://www.openflow.it This is a Python/Zope app, but they've gone to the trouble of linking to general WF docs and have some docs of their own that might be useful to developers.
