Hello folks, one strange week we had to face unexpectedly, as Sourceforge broke down completely due to a data storage failure at 17 July 2015. Without any option to SVN checkout, up, commit or else we had to realise how much we as FreeOpenSource projects, contributors and users depend on (mostly free of charge) internet based services like for example versioning systems and what might happen, if those things brake down for whatever reason. One week that maybe gave some of us some relief rather than usual working pressure. Some unexpected and involuntary "holidays"; but hopefully this experience gives us the chance to reconsider the dependencies in our modern lifes and what we will do about our findings. Finally after 24/7 working hard on restoring our data and services /(services which are given to the FreeOpenSource projects for nothing more the free ! )/ the guys at Sourceforge managed to bring back online the Allura based developer services - meaning that our SVN should work again from now on. Please go ahead, test and use SVN and report any issues to the dev-list for that we can contact SF. The Sourceforge Administrators still have to sort out a bunch of other SF-services. So we owe them our respect and solidarity, completely independantly which consequences might be agreed for us as a project. We shall send the guys a bunch of free hugs and positive energy, for that they can soon go back to their families instead of staying overtime every day in the offices and datacenters. Not another week hopefully - many of them might have wife (or husband or partner) and kids. So here finally the initial good message: *http://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge-subversion-svn-service-online/ *Happy days, Torsten * * |
