Hi, a member of my community (The Northumbrian Pipers' Society) is a visually impaired person. We are about to put in production a brand new web site for the Society which is a TikiWiki customization of the Eatlon theme with almost all the built-in TikiWiki features (Wiki, Articles, Blog, Forum, Galleries, ....). This person is asking help to me because I'm the promoter of the initiative and the author of that customization. The site, as it is, is really impervious for him. I tried to navigate the site using some textual browses (Lynx, WebbIE) and screenreaders (Thunder, JAWS, ...), but it's really a mess. Even the Login module hides the login button and the cursor jumps to the "Register" link, there are many 'transparent.png' link in the top bar that are meaningless for textual browsers, and so on. Does anyone, in the recent past, faced this problem or better, is there any ongoing initiative to tackle the problem of person whose vision loss prevent them from enjoy the Tiki? Do I have to rewrite everithing from scratch? Where to start? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank's in advance. Valerio PS: the site is now in business simulation at http://www.northumbrianpipers.org.uk/NPS |
