Hi, having just switched from WinEdt I find texmakerX great. There is a
feature of WinEdt that I really like but do not seem to find in texmaker:
Block/Column Selection and Operations. That is the possibility of selecting
just a block/column of text rather than the entire line. I find this feature
invaluable when inserting or editing tables. Is there a way to do the same in
    texmaker?

Also, in WinEdt text is usually wrapped but the wrapping is not on within the
table environment. So I selected the word wrap option in texmaker but then
realized the tables are also wrapped which is a bit annoying. Is there a way
to make the word wrapping option environment specific?

    Thanks,

    Mario

  • Hi,

Is there a way to do the same in texmaker?
Yes, you can press Ctrl+Alt while selecting the text to create cursor mirrors.
(there seems to be a bug in the latest version, that the additional selections
are not drawn, but it there)

Is there a way to make the word wrapping option environment specific?
Currently not, and it is probably not easy to implement.

    Hi Benito,
I guess you meant Ctrl+Shift. I tried Ctrl+Alt and it did not work for me.
then tried Ctrl+Shift for the sake of it and it works a beauty!
    thanks!

  • Actually, I meant Ctrl+Alt, but there a different possible keys:
Ctrl+Alt+Arrows: Creates additional cursors above/below the line (no
selection) (not tested, because on linux the window manager overrides this)
Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Arrows: Selects a block (not tested, because on linux the
    window manager overrides this)
    Shift+Ctrl+Mouse: Select a block
Ctrl+Alt+Mouse: Creates a column of cursors, or new cursors at arbitrary
    places (no selection)

    Hi Benito,
I am still struggling with the Block/Column Selection (I work on Windows XP).
I can select a block using Shift+Ctrl+Mouse, that's fine, but I then want to
replace that block with another one that I selected and copied in another
editor (in my case Notepad++). Imagine having produced a statistical table and
then wanting to copy and paste the columns from a log file to Tex. This block
Copy from the Notepad++ editor to Paste in TexmakerX does not work very well:
rather than replacing the old with the new block, in TexmakerX I get all the
lines at and below the cursor shifted down. A mess. But it works fine if I go
from Notepad++ to WinEdt instead. Any hint on how to make it work in TexmakerX
    ?

  • Hi,
I can't test it under Windows in the moment, but probably the clipboard format
of notepad is incompatible to tmx.

But as a workaround, you could just copy the complete table to a new document
in tmx (or a second tmx instance), and then copy the columns from there.
