inverse search with external pdf viewers

  • I noticed that when I use the internal viewer clicking on 'view source' in the
viewer results with placing the cursor in the tex file at a given word, not
just in a paragraph. How to obtain this level of precision with external pdf
viewers? I am using sumatrapdf with the command for inverse search

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeXstudio\texstudio.exe" "%f" -line %l

Is it enough to add some parameters or it depends on the pdf viewer?

    best,
    Karol

  • I think it's not possible. You can just pass the line. But it could be added.

Actually, it's not so easy. We added support to jump to a specific column
(currently only on SVN). However there is currenly no reliable way to
determine the source column when clicking on the PDF. Until now synctex does
not provide the column information. See also
    http://code.google.com/p/sumatrapdf/issues/detail?id=467
Therefore word or character level precision is not possible with external
    viewers.

The TXS internal synchronization inspects the surrounding text and uses this
context to find the correct position in the editor.
