No

TeXnicCenter often freezes when I save.

It is a habit of mine to save very frequently using the Ctrl-S shortcut to avoid data loss in case the program crashes (oh the irony). After restarting the software it works fine again.

I am using Windows 8.1.

I found this ticket [1] that was closed a long time ago. In the comments people recently reported the same issue I have:

Me too! I'm using TeXnicCenter 32bit on Windows 8.1 x64 on two machines. Both usually crash when I save (via menu or shortcut).
A way, how I often reproduce this is doing following:
    open TeXnicCenter
    do editing
    create output
show output (with SumatraPDF, leaving it open)
    do editing
save -> crashes in most cases

It never crashed while saving automatically and luckily it never crashed before saving!

I'm having the same problem on Windows 8.1 x64 with TeXnicCenter 2.02 Stable 64-Bit. Saving by myself via shortcut leads to a crash almost every time - luckily the files actually do get saved before the crash.

Is there a way to create some debug output to help locating the problem?

With me, the problem is similar. I have a Core i5 with 8 Gig RAM on a Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 2 13 - and when I start Texniccenter in Windows 8.1, then it first works. But when I open a previously saved project, CPU load gets 33% and stays there until the whole program crashes because of a Stack Overflow before the documents were displayed / opened. I tried several versions, x32 and x64 - the same problem in 1.0, 2.0 and current release.

Same problem using a Microsoft Surface i5 and a homebuilt Intel 5960X (Both running Windows 8.1 and x64 version of Texniccenter)

  • Same problem, Windows 8.1 x64 version of TeXnicCenter. This has been plaguing me completely randomly for months now and I'm seriously considering moving to a different editor.

    windows 8.1
    TeXnicCenter
    MikteX
    Adobe Reader

I don't know what was the real solution but... now it works.
    Here what I have done:
    - uninstalled TeXnicCenter and Miktek
    - reinstalled the 32 bit version... (at first Miktex, then TeXnicCenter)
    - uninstalled Adobe Reader DC
    - installed Adobe Reader XI
    - changed the Viewer Output Profiles: the new path of AcroRd32, and the server: from 'acroview' to 'acroviewR11'

Had this problem, too. (TC 2.02 32bit, MikteX, Win 8.1 64bit)
Setting the compatibility didn't do the trick for me, however, running TeXnicCenter as admin seems to work for me..

Admin unfortunately just seemed to work... at least it crashes less frequently now.
