I cannot reproduce the problem. Same command line works for me.

What happens if you change output folder to "C:\"?
    What OS do you use?
Also information about source file can help.

Also what happens if you place mencoder.exe with and other from a previous release of TEncoder?

I also have the same problem. I'm using version 3.5.0.3701. The following is the output from log:

    Encoder Log 1
    -ss 0 -endpos 70 -mc 0 -priority idle -aid 1 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=512:threads=2:aspect=16/9: -of mpeg ?nosub -srate 44100 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128: -channels 2 -delay 0 -o "E:\Temp\Temp1\7617188Cd01.mpeg" "G:\Temp1\7617188Cd01.avi"

    Failed to open ?nosub.
    Cannot open file/device.

According to the log, the output file name is incorrect. The input file is G:\Temp1\7617188Cd01.avi, the targat output directory is E:\Temp, so the file should be E:\Temp\7617188Cd01.mpeg, not E:\Temp\Temp1\7617188Cd01.mpeg.

Did you try using 3.6? I remember the symbol in front of "nosub" wasn't "-" but something that looked similar.

    Program version 3.6.0.3730

    Encoder Log 2
-ss 0 -endpos 8027 -mc 0 -priority idle -aid 1 -ovc copy -of avi −nosub -srate 44100 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128: -channels 2 -delay 0 -o "H:\Decoded\X-Men\Люди Икс (X-Men) - Коллекция. 2000-2011. same problem here. the ? symbol can appear if a symbol is used that isn't part of the current set, as often happens with different languages (such as trying to view chinese characters on a computer without asian language support), perhaps that's the cause, a special character has been used in the programming instead of a standardized dash?
