A recent discussion on the TEI list showed that there is a need to be able to add decls on some elements to mark various authorship (in that case various translators). To this end, it would be good to have model.respLike be a member of att.declarable.

This makes sense to me. Some examples are needed.

This would mean that the elements (sponsor funder principal author editor respStmt meeting) would be able to point via @decls to... what element in the header, that would give further explanation of their roles?

@Gaby: For instance, sponsor/@decls could point to an <org>; author/@decls could point to a <person>; meeting/@decls could point to an <event>; and so on.

@martin ... but that isn't really what @decls is used for is it? It is used to point to a bit of the header to override the default metadata. It isn't meant to be a general purpose 'this element is corresponds to this other element in some way' kind of attribute. Instead it is meant to be saying 'Everywhere in this document this thing (e.g. availability) is the assumed default, except in this section where this other one I'm pointing at here is the case.'

If we want something to point from sponsor to an org, then it should be getting something like @ref shouldn't it?

Maybe I'm just confused and someone can explain it to me better.

We need examples to convince us why @decls is appropriate in this case: our understanding is that this use case woiuld be met by @ref or similar.

Contacted Laurent for comment on 2012-06-13, he said "OK. Looked through the ticket again and I would need to dive into the TEI list archive to find where this was mentioned. I put this on hold... I am overwhelmed at present."

Assigning to SR to make change and hopefully add/tidy up some examples. Made Green and pending.

  • Council meeting 11/13 suggests that it is better to put all the members of model.respLike into att.canonical as well, so they get @ref and @key. This should provide the necessary facility, better than @decls
