In many cases, the actual identification strings contained within an idno has an internal structures with parts having some specific (and for the identification relevant) semantics. Following a discussion at the last f2f council meeting in Paris (Nov. 2011) it is suggested to make idno recursive to take this into account.
A typical example may be the structuring of an ISBN number in sub-parts corresponding to group identifier, publisher prefix and title identifier, to facilitate retrieval of all publications belong to a certain category.

Some specific examples of composite idnos are needed.

Here's an example. it's derived from the example at http://isbn-information.com/10-digit-isbn.html and the number needs to be double checked at http://www.isbn-check.de/checkisbn.pl before the example goes live, in case of mangling

    <idno type="ISBN"><idno type="group">0</idno>-<idno type="publisher">19</idno>-<idno type="title">852663</idno><idno type="check">6</idno></idno>

Changed content model from macro.xtext to (text|model.gLike|idno)* and added example. And checked it., since you ask. At release 10189
