The elements <colophon>, <explicit>, <finalRubric>, <incipit>, and <rubric> are special types of quotes. Therefore they need to be included in the model model.quoteLike to share the content definition of <quote> and <cit>.

Maybe the former elements and the actual members of model.quoteLike have to form distinct subgroups as <msItemStruct> cannot have <quote> or <cit> as children.

<colophon> etc. would then need to be removed from model.msItemPart, of course. But adding them to model.quoteLike would not affect their content -- they would remain phrase sequence rather than specialPara. What exactly are you proposing?

<msItemStruct> cannot contain model.quoteLike elements, because the workgroup which proposed it felt strongly it should contain only specific elements, rather than these generic ones.

Hmmm, I should have given an example of why to change the model. Now that it is 4 month ago, I have to "recover" my thoughts:

From a philosophical point of view I thought about how possibly an element being a special type of quotation could be excluded from model.quoteLike?

Then you are right , Lou, in guessing it even might have been because of the content model. I think I proposed it because of the lack of <bibl> and <quote> in the content model. For medieval text it is very much possible that incipits etc. may contain phrases from other texts, which editors/cataloguers might want to make more explicit. If the community feels (or the practice shows) that <ref>/<ptr> is enough to ensure this I might drop the proposal to enlarge the content model.

But, as my second paragraph might explain, I have been aware of the fact that <incipit> etc serve special needs and that they therefore still might needed to be destinguished be forming a certain subtype of model.

To sum up: The quoteLike elements should form a group. The content model of the elements to be added to the model might be expanded towards macro.specialPara.

Given that Torsten's comment is so careful ('model might be expanded') there does not seem to be a urgent need to change the content model. There is a case to be made for the mentioned elements (<colophon>, <explicit>, <finalRubric>, <incipit>, and <rubric>) to become members of a single class ('msItemQuote') which could then be used in the definition of msItem and msItemStruct. This would help in the case that a similar element would be introduced in the TEI itself or in a customisation.
