I purchased an eMac more than a year ago, about when Jaguar was first being released. It came with Mac OS X 10.1.x installed, and we upgraded to Jaguar shortly after purchase. We have recently installed Panther on it. Mac OS 9 is apparently part of the system, and if we ever try to start an application that expects to work with OS 9, an emulation window starts up that apparently provides the needed Mac OS 9 interface. I can't speak in any technical detail about what processes may be running deep under the hood at boot time (if that's what "boot into Mac OS 9" is supposed to refer to), but our eMac has never given the impression it runs anything other than Mac OS X. | Don Porter Mathematical and Computational Sciences Division | | don...@ni...
