"clock format" shows any time up to October 1971 as BST by default even though British Summertime only applies in summer (and there was British Double Summertime during the war). Problem originally pointed out in Bug 1426279 but only for earlier dates. e.g.,
% clock format 0
Thu Jan 01 01:00:00 BST 1970
% clock format 33000000
Sun Jan 17 23:40:00 BST 1971
% clock format 65000000
Sun Jan 23 07:33:20 GMT 1972
%
I wanted to use "clock format $n -format %H:%M" to convert seconds into hours and minutes, but this bug made it come out an hour too long, e.g.,
% clock format 1620 -format %H:%M
01:27
can add "-gmt 1" to work around.
