I have been using TaskCoach on and off for some years and just recently updated to the current release (1.3.22) and find that my efforts are all being tracked in GMT/UTC time rather than local time. I am located in Sydney and am currently GMT+11 and it is quite off-putting to see the effort summaries with in this format. I have searched the FAQ, manual and Googled this issue but cant see any similar complaints. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise, SP1. Is there any config or ini location that I need to set timezone information to force TaskCoach to use system time

You could try reseting the .ini file if you don't mind losing your window layout and other preferences. In fact, please try temporarily moving or renaming to see if that fixes it. See:
    https://answers.launchpad.net/taskcoach/+faq/1061

Now, there isn't a setting, it is supposed to just use your system clock. So if the .ini reset doesn't do it, then there is some bug we need to fix. I've had no problems though.

    Best,
    Aaron

Thanks for your help. I deleted the .ini file and let the application create a new one and I don't see any change. The attached screengrab is what I see when I create a new effort. I'll check my other (home) Windows 7 machine when I leave work, but my intention was to use TaskCoach again for time management at work.

    cheers,
    Darren

It's not like I didn't believe you without the screenshot. I use Task Coach for time management myself, just never seen this issue before. I'm assigning this to the developer who knows the most about what's going on with the time system. Hopefully he can figure this out soon.

Oh, but one more thing, check if it is already fixed in the latest bugfix release: http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_bugfixes.py

    Best,
    Aaron

I did test this on my home PC and efforts were tracked in local time, but on my work PC they are tracked in GMT/UTC time. The Windows regional settings on both are the same:

Region and Language | Format := English (Australia)
    Location := Australia
Timezone := UTC +10 Sydney (daylight savings enabled and applies)

I have also installed the latest bugfix release (1.3.22.5945) and no change.

  • My guess is that it's a display problem. Is the time correct in the effort viewer's first column ?

No, the all dates appear to be in UTC not just the effort ones. If I create a new task (time is currently 3:15pm) they show as UTC time (eg 4:15am in this case).

  • Could you attach a screenshot of the date/time format settings in your regional settings ?

Please see attached. Note that I have been using Task Coach on and off for some years here at work and only now is it showing times in this UTC/GMT format. We switched from Win XP to Win 7 last year and I am sure that I used Task Coach after that and didnt see this issue. I am not certain that it was still working OK after the installation of Win 7 SP1, but that is what we are currently running. As I mentioned above I have another PC (home one) that is running the same OS, same patch level and it works just fine, so it is something specific to this one.

  • Looks like the attachment is missing :) We did change some stuff related to date/time rendering but I really don't know how it could make this happen. We use directly the Python datetime module and never consider timezones... Maybe a bug in datetime, who knows.
