Installing more than 1000 nodes in 15min with SystemImager

SystemImager has been used to install a HPC cluster of 1190 clients (IBM Blade LS21) over a 1Gb/s interconnect link: a 2.7GB RHEL5.1 x86_64 OS image has been successfully delivered to all the clients in only 15min using the BitTorrent transport.

You can find the detailed results and the bandwidth graphs here: http://wiki.systemimager.org/index.php/BitTorrent#Benchmark

Thanks to CINECA (http://www.cineca.it/en) for granting us dedicated access to a large compute cluster to perform this benchmark.

In 4.0.0 there are all the new cool 3.9.x features that can be considered ready for production now and they're worty to be in the stable branch. On the other hand the changelog from the latest unstable release (3.9.6) is quite small, there are mainly bug fixes, and this means that if you already moved to the unstable branch, the migration to 4.0.0 will be natural and really smooth.... read more
