  • Hi, I have a problem

I downloaded the Syntek trunk driver, compiled (make) it and called "modprobe videodev" and "insmod stk11xx.ko" as root and I get the device working, but it works without colors!
When I try for example Canorama, it displays picture fine with good FPS, but the picture remains black and white. The Color bar makes no difference in which position it is.

    Please all suggestions are welcome.

    • do u have 32 or 64 bit system?

    • 64 bit

    • Same with A6T, Ubuntu feisty 32bit. It is not a real blackwhite picture... looks like a color inversion.

      Hi,

      Try with ekiga.

Or use camorama with the effect "color correction".

The same here, only grayscale in both mplayer and vlc. A few details:

    # lsusb
Bus 008 Device 003: ID 05e1:0408 Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd

    # uname -r
    2.6.31.6-thinkpad

    # dmesg

usb 8-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 8-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 - STK-1160 based device found.
stk11xx: Syntek AVStream USB2.0 Video Capture - Product ID 0x0408.
    stk11xx: Release: 0005
    stk11xx: Number of interfaces : 3
stk11xx: Initialize USB2.0 Syntek Capture device
stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 Capture device is ready
stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 Camera is now controlling video device /dev/video1

If you need any other detail please let me know. I can write C but I know anything about USB, let alone USB under Linux.
However I'm more than willing to donate a EasyCap USB video grabber like mine if you want.

I forgot: I'm using latest svn version of the driver, checked out today.

BTW: camorama -D bails out with the dry message: "Unable to capture image (VIDIOCMCAPTURE)." (no errors nor warnings before that message)

Now I've also tried ekiga, but I get even worse results (seems a b/w interlaced stream with a black band at the top)

Hi, I have same problem with 05e1:0408, picture has no color.  I used palantir for testing.

I use the easycap 0408 device with palantir and NTSC, and the colors work perfectly. Check out the latest code from SVN and try the following palantir settings:

    In palantir.conf, set the following:
    VideoNorm NTSC
    Palette Color
    FrameSize 640x480
    ClientTimeout 300

Everything else should be commented (####)

If you still do not see any colors, maybe you are not getting an NTSC signal? The settings might be different for PAL and others.

Unfortunately my thinkpad went broken, so I had to start over with a new laptop. Now I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty (linux 2.6.31). I've checked out svn, compiled the module and inserted with insmod. After I connect the EasyCAP I get these lines in dmesg:

usb 2-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 2-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 - STK-1160 based device found.
stk11xx: Syntek AVStream USB2.0 Video Capture - Product ID 0x0408.
    stk11xx: Release: 0005
    stk11xx: Number of interfaces : 3
stk11xx: Initialize USB2.0 Syntek Capture device
stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 Capture device is ready
stk11xx: Syntek USB2.0 Camera is now controlling video device /dev/video1
stk11xx: Load default sensor settings fail !

Should I worry about the last line? (vlc does not work anymore, not even b/w, simply no video).

Do not worry about the last line.

Actually, I never got VLC to work with the EasyCAP, but mplayer and palantir work.
