Coz, if your new version is playable (even though there might be some bugs), why not just commit it? It's easier for everybody to test (e.g. I have a heavily modified SVN version atm, so applying your patch is not an option, unless I check out a new version or so). Letting the patches grow bigger and bigger is not really efficient either, and I think we all agree that both patches are good to have. If there are bugs, people will find them more quickly this way as well :) And Robert can commit his patch quicker as well, without having to wait.
