Aboriginal (Boorong) images for Stellarium
I know from IIS that you are involved with Stellarium development/testing.
I've been working with John Morieson to create Stellarium starlore using John's interpretation of some of the Boorong stories about stars and constellations. More information can be found on John's site:
(the 1857 Philosophical Institute Address by W. Stanbridge is of particular interest):
We have completed the starculture for Stellarium and it can be downloaded here:
there is also an installer
it puts the files into
and modifies config.ini and ssystem.ini if selected during the install.
I still need to go back to Lake Tyrrel and do a 360 panorama for the landscape image. I know you did this before - would it be enough to take a full 360 panorama, then produce a final 2:1 image of 360x180 equirectangular projection?
Also we would be very grateful if this package is considered for inclusion with the main Stellarium installer.
This project is still beta but is close to completion pending the landscape pano. The Boorong Starlore will be used in the new MirrorDome type planetarium at the Discovery centre in Bendigo.
I have installed it in my user area and it works very well with great textures and constellation names. There are only two constellation line sets that are assumed to be original but there is an alternative set from Alex in constelationship.fab.dots which looks good even if it is not authentic. An associated landscape is being made of the lake Tyrrel area which will also be available when complete.
