So there are 2 new parameters: mag_converter_max_mag = 30.0 for setting a global limiting magnitude independent of FOV mag_converter_max_scaled_60deg_mag = 6.5 for setting the limiting magnitude for FOV=60. This value is later mangled with the FOV in order to get a limiting magnitude for the current FOV and ToneReproductor. I thing you planned to have this, but just called it "limiting_magnitude" > > > > > > > The point stars seem to look OK. I changed it, but it did not become easier, as I thought. ---[snip]-------- > > You just state your personal opinion that you find the colors displeasing. > > There is nothing to say against this, but you will understand that this opinion > > is totally subjective. Mike Lonehiker found a bug in the catalogs, so that the B-V value of Hipparcos stars was corrupted. Try again with the new stars_0,1,2 catalogs. > I am sure there is some subjectivity in this perception, but > I know I am not alone. It seems like it could be tested with the right > equipment. But maybe not anything in our budget. :) You would need to measure the darkness color perception of the human eye, which is different for every single person. Since stellarium does not change the star colors for different brightness I see no reason why to care. -----------[snip]----------- > > > > > > Anyone object to changing it back to 1.0? > > > > I recommed you test it before saying yes or no: it has some impact on the overall > > appearance, otherwise Fabien would not have changed it to 1.3. In default config.ini star_mag_scale was even 1.4! I changed it back to 1.3, and I recommend 1.0. Also I have put all new parameters with comments in default_config.ini. Even more detailed comments are in StarMgr.h. Perhaps this can go somehow into the user guide, if you like to, and Matthew wants to do it. Johannes |
