Lack of decent progress indication and advice when it was finished was a slight problem. I waited ten miutes after activity stopped and thought the build had failed. However I looked in the qtcreator-build\src folder and there were the stellarium.exe and libstelmain.dll. I transfered them to the stellarium directory added the other required dll's from Qt plus the sqldrivers\qsqlite4.dll folder and away it went.
I will make some additional notes in Fabien's procedure then try on another computer.

Hi Fabien
I have been trying to build with Qt creator but not having much luck. I get down to step 8
but can't generate the cmakecache.txt properly. As far as I can see I have followed the earlier steps verbatum and I have read the instructions for a cmakelists project which just says the same as what you have listed.
Any other clues?

Perhaps he was checking out from with Creator.  Simply start Creator, go to Open Project (or file - what ever it's called) and open the main CMakeLists.txt file.
