With the entire moon showing, I'm suggesting earthshine, where the moon is lit by light reflected off earth. I like the effect in real life, that's why. I hadn't made the eclipse connection, but you're right, it does look like it.

I'll try some things to counter the general flatness of the icon, but I don't really mind it. Stellarium is a window to the sky, and the icon should describe that.

The new icon looks good, though there is something that bothers me and
I can't quite describe. An attempt:

It looks somewhat flat. I don't know why. The Moon also looks flat,
but in this case I think I know why. Is the crescent supposed to be a
moon phase, or the moon during an eclipse? Because it looks like the
second case - the shadow looks like Earth's shadow being cast on the
Moon.
