I have finished translating all sky cultures description files into Arabic,
including the new Sami sky culture.
How can these translations be added to Stellarium sky culture folders, so that
next release will have them for Arabic speaking users?

Also, in the process, I found some broken links and other HTML issues in the
original description.en.utf8 files. I posted the list of these issues to the
stellarium-pubdevel, but I guess Stellarium team was too busy to look at my
post. I have the time to clean up these files and reload them to a file
sharing site if that is appropriate.

Assuming the proper release process is followed (we have a checklist), the
    following actions are taken:

2 - 4 weeks before release, new translatable strings are uploaded into
launchpad (this should also happen periodically during development). This is
done by one of the developers.

Just before the release, new translated .po files are downloaded from
launchpad and imported into the build by a developer.

From the perspective of a translator, there's nothing special to do.... just
keep an eye on the translations to see if there is anything new to do. If we
remember and are organised enough, we also try to make announcements here to
let translators know that a release will be happening soon. This is much more
likely when we have a translation-heavy release with lots of new strings in.

stellarium-pubdevel is a good place to report broken links to. Thanks. We
can't promise to look at things immediately. Most of us are just volunteers
(myself included), doing what we can in our spare time. The paid devs are paid
to work on specific things like VirGO, and not general development (which is
done in their spare time too).

Thanks Matthew, but description files for sky cultures ,as you know, are
independent of the strings in Launcpad translation. I have written a
description.ar.utf8 file for every sky culture translating the
    description.en.utf8 file there.
The content in the file will show in Arabic in the star lore window when the
    language is switched to Arabic.

So, I have 13 description.ar.utf8 ready for Aztec, Chinese, and so on.

From a translator point of view, I find this way (filename with a part to
indicate the language used) is a good and flexible way to translate or have a
local version of some components of Stellarium in local language, for example,
star names and nebulae. If we have something like star_names.en.fab (star
names) and ngc2000names.en.dat (nebulae) then we can have our local versions
    like star_names.ar.fab.

The flexibility here is having the freedom to add new stars for example to the
list (in Arabic we have more named stars than what is available in Stellarium
star_names.fab), while launchpad translation limits us to the strings
available, which is a good way for program messages and gui commands.

Oh, the description files.. ah. yes. Urm I don't know if there is an official
process. I would do the following: watch the forum here for an announcement,
or do translations whenever it suits you - taking the latest files from SVN.
You can do this via the web based interface, or install a SVN client,
    whichever suits you best.

Then submit either .patch files to the mailing list, or just send the whole
description file to the mailing list. If there's a bunch of them, zip them up
and upload them to a file download service somewhere and sent a link to that
    to the mailing list.

I would like to use launchpad as much as possible because it lets the work be
distributed more easily among many translators, and the results are easy to
merge. However, for the description files this is less practical as they are
more like full on documents than a bunch of strings.

The star names IMO would be best done with launchpad. However, it's a matter
of getting them put in there... If someone can add a few hours to each day,
    I'd like that. :D

    Cheers
    Matthew

    Many Thanks Matthew,
I see the files made their way to rev. 6269, even before I went to see if my
post appeared on the mailing list.
