Just a question..
Would it be possible to include a driver for Sky-Watcher AZ mount that would
work without the SynScan handcontroller in Stellarium ??
You seem to have CSS turned off.
Please don't fill out this field.
While it would be possible. Unless someone wants to develop a system in
competition with EQMOD I don't think it is likely. The mount uses an entirely
different system of controlling two microstep stepping motors. If you don't
have the Synscan you can control the telescope with EQMOD and the ASCOM
interface to Stellarium.
Thank you for replaying..
I already tried that already but it dont work.. If I would like to use EQMOD
then I got to have the SynScan handcontrol as a protocol translator, I just
thought if there is a reason why there is no driver in Stellarium using the
commandset directly to the SW AZ mount.
Incidently EQMOD can control your mount from stellarium. You need the ASCOM
driver and the Stellarium interface. Did you use the EQDIR cable that converts
the RS232 to TTL. It won't work without that. This conversion is part of the
3.27 version of synscan so it is not necessary if you have this latest version
Yes, I do have the cable and I did some tests just to know that the cable is
working by using minicom and issuing command :a1 and received a reply from the
mount, the commandset is available from SW site so that is not the problem,
manually issuing commands to the mount works fine but using EQMOD and ASCOM
does not work, well, I did not have any luck with EQMOD/ASCOM and is quite
unpractical to use minicom as a driver.
I also checked out the INDI project but there is no driver for my mount
I remember I had trouble getting EQMOD to work but I eventually got it
installed properly and found out how to make it work. I would not call it a
very user friendly system . You mentioned getting the command set from the SW
site. Which command set was that.. I have not seen the command set for the
mount other than for a synscan
The interface for ASCOM is nice but bacause it's only Windows I dont really
like it at all, I prefer Linux.
Many have problems using it but but there is also many users having problems,
I'm member of the mailinglist and read nearly everything there is to read
about EQMOD/ASOM but the problem is not the installation, I also done two
installations on different laptops and the result is still the same.
SW made the commandset availabale for everybody ojn their site :
All the sourcecode and exaples are right there.
Their testapplication "Skywather Sample Control Program" at the first page
works perfect with my mount and controls the mount with great precision.
