    Hi Guys,
I am developing a script to run at my astronomy club to give viewers a Sky
Guide for the forthcoming two months from our club's location in Kent,
    England.

I seem to have got most of the graphics sorted now, thanks to all those that
helped me, but I now want to load and play a sound file to add some musical
background. I have tried out some of the demo scripts after changing the
LoadSound to load a song in .wav format from my hard drive. The script runs
with no errors but I get no sound.

I have read on the forum that I might have to recompile the Stellarium source
    files, I am running V0.11.3.

How do I compile the source files when I have no compiler? Would it be
possible for someone to compile Stellarium with the sound functions enabled
please and make it available to me.

    Thanks
    Ian

    Hi
There is some inconsistency in the playing of sound files. Sound works with
some sound cards and not others and on some computers and not others. As a
result the sound facility is not compiled into the release version of
    Stellarium..

If you would like to check out your computer to see if the sound will work
download this version that has sound activated.

    It may work for you.

    Hi Barry,
Sorry I missed your response as I forgot to monitor the thread.

Thanks for that, I am downloading the sound enabled version as I type this
    response.

What version of Stellarium is it?

    Thanks
    Ian

    Hi Barry,
I´m also trying to use the sound feature for my Planetarium.
Thanks for compiling this version, but it does not work on my machine.
Are there any other hints for the sound feature I have to look for ?
    Thanks you in advance.

    Hi Dieter
I have sound activated in about 7 installations of Stellarium on different
computers at the moment and only one will actually play sound files. The one
that works best is an installation of Stellarium on an Acer 5560 with Windows
7 but I needed to change the default sound to CD quality 16 bit 44100 hz.

    Hi Barry,
    thnaks for your reply.
Im using an old Lenovo T61 notebook for my tests with stellarium. OS is WinXP
    pro.
I found no way to change the default sound quality to CD,16Bit,41,1 Kc.
It look like the integrated SoundMax audio chip does not have this function...
or I missed the right tab ?

My script runs without any error, and it looks, like the soundfile takes some
    memory when monitored with the
    Taskmanager...

I have no idea how to fix this.

    Hi Dieter & Barry,
I still can't get the sound to run on my laptop either and I am rapidly
running out of time for Friday presentation. The only option that I apper to
have for the sound on my system is "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC"

Therefore as a temporary measure for this Friday's presentation only, I have
got a friend to record a .avi screen capture of Stellarium running my script
and then I am going to import it into my video editing software and add the
    soundtrack in that.

This is not the best fix as during screen capture both programs are running at
the same time, competing for processor time. My friend has a much more
powerful laptop than mine so hopefully this will work as a stopgap but does of
course involve a lot more work.

Once I have got this Friday's show out of the way I will have 2 months to work
on this sound problem using Barry's specially compiled version of Stellarium.

    Regards
    Ian
