    hello,
i wanted to install staden iolib-1.12.2 on a SLES 10 SP3. ./configure went fine, but make didn't suceed.
    I got the following error:

    gcc -g -O2 -o .libs/convert_trace convert_trace.o  ../io_lib/.libs/libstaden-read.so -lm

    make: ***  Error 1
    make: Leaving directory `/root/io_lib-1.12.2'
    make: ***  Error 2

Normally i install software using rpm, so i'm not familiar with manual installations.
Can anybody give me some advice ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Bernd

  • It looks like it failed to find zlib perhaps, although it should compile wthout it - just with majorly reduced functionality. Did it complain at all during the ./configure stage?

Also note that while you almost certainly have zlib installed (eg in /usr/lib/libz.so), it's also quite probable that your OS separates out run-time from development packages. You may need to install the zlib-devel package first. If you're stil stuck after reading this, please email me (via sourceforge will be fine) a copy of your config.log file and I'll take a look to see if it missed anything.

    hello James,

    zlib is installed:
    pc53200:~/io_lib-1.12.2 # rpm -qa|grep -i zlib
    zlib-1.2.3-15.2
    zlib-32bit-1.2.3-15.2
    perl-Compress-Zlib-1.35-14.2
    zlib-devel-1.2.3-15.2

It didn't complain during ./configure. How can i email you the config.log ?

    Bernd

    Bernd

  • I've got some problems with zlib some time ago while installing staden on a Ubuntu machine. Don't recall if it where this particular error though….

Anyhow, I fixed it by compiling  zlib 1.2.3 with shared enabled:
    ./configure -prefix=/usr/local/zlib123 -shared && make && sudo make install

Hopefully this works for you as well.

    Cheers!
    Oscar
